The Kings House Hotel is committed to becoming a Certified Green Property, by trying to be as sustainable and environmentally friendly in all that we do here.  This is an update on our progress so far…

• New adjustable Fluid Master toilet fill valves give us the ability to adjust fill rate and flush of each toilet without cost/waste of replacing toilets, and is leak proof
• New low mercury and lead fluorescent in-globe lights give us the ability to reduce electricity use in each bathroom by 196 watts per room, saving 10,976 watts for the property per minute all are on, and also saves us cost of replacing light fixtures
• Use of fluorescent bulbs throughout the property
• Reduced water temperature from 165 to 120 degrees, saving 28% on gas consumption, while providing safer water temperature to guests
• Reduced water pressure in building from 115 PSI to 60 PSI, a reduction of 48% in water flow.
• Shower heads are reduced flow models
• In-room recycle containers for all guest rooms
• Tent card program for bedding, asking guests to reuse their sheets when staying for more than one night.
• Tent card program for bath towels, asking guests to reuse their towels when staying for more than one night.
• Tent card for asking guests to turn off all unneeded electrical components when leaving room
• New HEPA air filters in each room, with no wasteful, expensive  replacement filters
• Cleaning program for in PTAC air filters.
• Recycled Toilet Paper: Cascade North River, Made with Recycled Fibers
• Tissues, Dust Free, Cascade North River, Made with Recycled Fibers
• Beverage Napkins, Cascade North River, Made with Recycled Fibers
• Recycled plates in breakfast area
• Use paper cups for juice, etc., biodegradable
• Recycled toner cartridges
• Minimum 30%  Recycled office/printer paper

Future Projects:

• When Carpeting, purchase minimum 50% recycled nylon content
• Replace curtains with some recycled materials, reduce heat loss, etc.
• Replace bathroom windows to double pane vinyl slider… quiet and efficient
• Re landscape property to be local plantings/xeriscaped.
• Find a system we can use for either gray water or rain water collection for irrigation
• Replace all in room soap dispensers with new three product system to reduce soap and shampoo waste products, save money (Coming Soon!)
• Find a program (such as as Green Switch) that can completely turn off electronic items not in use, i.e., TV, etc.
• Re-do door weather stripping on all doors with vinyl stripping, reducing temperature loss or gain in guest rooms, saving energy use from PTACs (Coming Soon!)
• Replace all paper, plastic and Styrofoam products with glass, china and silverware.
• Install hot water only sanitizer system for dishware cleaning
